Olympic Games 2012

Question: To ask Her Majesty's Government further to the Written Answer by Lord West of Spithead on 8 February (WA 96), what they mean by "an appropriate level of assurance" in respect of screening for chemical materials that might be brought into the venues of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Answer: The Olympic Security Programme is developing, in conjunction with LOCOG and ODA, comprehensive operational requirements for venue security. These will be subject to a range of assurance mechanisms including a testing and exercise programme approved and monitored by the governance arrangements put in place as part of the programme. It would not be appropriate to disclose further details in order to protect the integrity of the operational security regime for venues.
