Heritage Protection Bill (Draft)

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport what provisions of the Draft Heritage Bill 2008 are (a) being implemented and (b) are planned to be implemented; and if he will make a statement.

Answer: The Government are fully committed to protecting and conserving our heritage assets, and to realising the cultural, social, economic and environmental benefits of the historic environment. I am currently evaluating which elements of the draft Bill have already been implemented through other mechanisms, and which might potentially still be desirable in future. I will make announcements on any conclusions I reach as soon as time permits.
