Elections: Voting System
- Question
- To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether they will publish an assessment of the experience of the alternative vote system in those countries where it has been used for national and federal elections.
- Answer
-
The Government have no plans to make such an assessment. As my right honourable friend the Deputy Prime Minister announced on 5 July (Official Report, col. 23-25) a Bill will be introduced before the summer to provide for a referendum on the alternative vote system, and for a review of constituency boundaries in order to create fewer and more equally sized constituencies. The Bill will set out further details about the form of alternative vote system to be put in the referendum.
