Magistrates: Surrey

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice what the average annual number of magistrates in Surrey was in the period (a) 1980 to 1989, (b) 1990 to 1999 and (c) 2000 to 2009.
Answer

Data for the periods 1980 to 1995 are no longer retained. On average, there were 422 magistrates per year in Surrey during the period 1996 to 1999.Despite an extensive search, it was not possible to locate data for the year 2000 in the archives. On average, there were 367 magistrates per year in Surrey during the period 2001 to 2009.
