Crime: Violence

- To ask Her Majesty’s Government what measure of long-term trends in violent crime they use to formulate policy.

Home Office policy on violent crime is based on evidence from a wide range of data on violent crime trends. The data sources include the British Crime Survey (BCS), police recorded crime, the Homicide Index, a special data collection from the police covering firearms offences and NHS data on admissions to hospitals in England. Using all of these sources enables the Home Office to make policy decisions based on a broad picture of violent crime trends.
