Health: Physical Activity
- Question
- To ask Her Majesty’s Government what role physical activity plays in improving public health.
- Answer
-
Evidence shows that increasing levels of participation in physical activity is a key part of improving public health. There is strong evidence for the many health benefits from being physically active, including a significantly lower risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, certain types of cancer and to achieve a healthy weight. The short-term benefits of increased physical activity extend to better overall mental health and well-being.
