Firearms: Licensing
- Question
- To ask Her Majesty’s Government how many (a) firearms certificates, and (b) shotgun certificates, were reviewed by Cumbria Constabulary in 2008 and 2009 outside the normal renewal period because of concerns about holders of certificates.
- Answer
-
Information is not held centrally on the number of certificate holders reviewed by individual police forces prior to renewal. However, the Home Office holds data on the number of revocations. Certificates can be revoked if the chief police officer is satisfied that the holder can no longer be entrusted with firearms. In 2008-09, one firearm certificate and seven shotgun certificates were revoked in the Cumbria police force area.
