Written question asked by Baroness Miller of Chilthorne Domer (Liberal Democrat), in the House of Lords. It was answered by Lord Henley (Conservative) on Thursday, 28 October 2010.

Owls

Question
To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether they have estimated the number of owls kept in captivity in the United Kingdom; and, if so, whether this number has increased over the last five years.
Answer

Owls have never been a registerable species under Section 7 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Therefore we have no records or estimates of how many are currently kept in captivity or were kept in captivity in the past.
