Written question asked by David Amess (Conservative) on Monday, 15 November 2010, in the House of Commons. It was due for an answer on Wednesday, 17 November 2010. It was answered by Alistair Burt (Conservative) on Friday, 19 November 2010 on behalf of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Iran: Sanctions

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assessment he has made of the effectiveness of the recently-introduced sanctions against Iran; and if he will make a statement.
Answer

It is too early for a full assessment. However, early indications are that sanctions and other political pressure are having an impact. We urge Iran to accept our repeated invitation to talks, in order to reach an agreement that satisfies the international community's justified concerns about Iran's nuclear programme.
