Climate Change

Question
To ask Her Majesty’s Government what are their priorities during the new round of climate change negotiations in Cancun.
Answer

The Government are committed to working towards an ambitious global deal to tackle climate change. At Cancun, we want to see substantive progress made on decisions of the conference of parties that helps to re-establish momentum towards that goal. Our aim is to seek decisions on anchoring developed and developing country mitigation pledges into the formal UNFCCC process, agreement on the measurement, reporting and verification arrangements for emissions from both developed and developing countries, arrangements for the future governance of climate finance (including establishing the green fund), measures to reduce emissions from deafforestation, as well as arrangements on market mechanisms, the technology mechanism and adaptation framework.
