Written question asked by Lord Mann (Labour) on Monday, 6 December 2010, in the House of Commons. It was due for an answer on Wednesday, 8 December 2010. It was answered by Robert Neill (Conservative) on Tuesday, 14 December 2010 on behalf of the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Councillors: Business Interests

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government what plans he has for a national register of councillors' interests.
Answer

Our proposals for abolishing the Standards Board regime involve that in future, publicly available registers of members' interests are maintained locally by councils, reflecting that the accountability of councils and their members is to their local electorate. We are keen for this information to be published online in an open and standardised format.
