East London Mosque

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government how much funding from the public purse his Department and its agencies provided to the East London Mosque and its associated bodies in (a) 2007-08, (b) 2008-09 and (c) 2009-10; and for what purpose the funding was provided in each case.

Answer: Development support to the value of £3,600 was given to the East London Mosque Trust Ltd in 2009-10 from the Department for Communities and Local Government's Communitybuilders Programme. This was used to review the financial management, business model, organisational development and social return of their multi-purpose community hub. This programme is administered by the national partner, the Adventure Capital Fund.DCLG also provided the East London Mosque and London Muslim Centre with £47,000 through the Faith Communities Capacity building Fund between January 2006 and March 2007. This funding helped the East London Mosque and London Muslim Centre improve its internal processes, enabling it to become more efficient, transparent and accountable.
