Headaches: Research

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will promote research into the causes of migraines and headaches.
Answer

The Department's National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) welcomes applications for support into any aspect of human health, including migraine and headache. These applications are subject to peer review and judged in open competition, with awards being made on the basis of the scientific quality of the proposals made. In all disease areas, the amount of NIHR funding depends on the volume and quality of scientific activity.The NIHR-funded University College London Hospitals Biomedical Research Centre is undertaking research on headache and pain. A five-year budget of £3.7 million has been allocated to this work.
