Depressive Illnesses

- To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will assess long-term trends in rates of depression among those aged (a) 15 to 19, (b) 20 to 24 and (c) 65 years and over.

This information is not included in the Department's regular statistical terms and is not available for the age groups requested. However, some information is available from the report 'Adult Psychiatric Morbidity in England, 2007—Results of a Household Survey', published jointly by the Office of National Statistics and the National Health Service Information Centre. A copy has been placed in the Library. The following table gives information on the percentage of people in the available age groups who were suffering from a mixed anxiety and depression disorder in 1993, 2000 and 2007.
