- To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will estimate (a) the number of fragility fractures which would be prevented and (b) the net cost savings to the NHS that would be achieved in an average GP consortia patient population through the introduction of a commissioned falls and fracture care pathway.

The most recent estimate of the extent to which fragility fractures could be prevented for a certain population through the introduction of a falls and fracture care pathway (also known as a fracture liaison service), and the consequent savings to the national health service, is set out in ““Fracture prevention services: An economic evaluation””, which was published by the Department in 2009. A copy has been placed in the Library.
