Glasgow University: Finance

- To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what recent discussions he has had with (a) Ministers in the Scottish Executive, (b) representatives of Universities Scotland, (c) representatives of the university of Glasgow and (d) trade unions on the economic effects of planned reductions in funding for language courses at the university of Glasgow.

The Secretary of State for Scotland has regular discussions with representatives from Scotland's universities on a variety of matters. Higher education in Scotland is devolved and funding for Scottish universities is a matter for the Scottish Government. Universities are autonomous institutions and decisions on course provision are the responsibility of university courts.
