- Question
- To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has made to his Syrian counterpart on weapons transferred to Hezbollah.
- Answer
-
My right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary, during his visit to Damascus in January 2011, raised the issue of Hizballah's weapons with both President Assad and Foreign Minister Muallem, where he highlighted the dangers to stability in the region in allowing weapons smuggling to Hizballah. We continue to press for the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolutions (UNSCR), most notably UNSCR 1701, which calls upon Hizballah to disarm, and our ambassador in Damascus regularly raises the issue of Hizballah's weapons with the Syrian Government.
