Written question asked by Maria Eagle (Labour) on Wednesday, 9 March 2011, in the House of Commons. It was due for an answer on Monday, 14 March 2011. It was answered by Norman Baker (Liberal Democrat) on Monday, 4 April 2011 on behalf of the Department for Transport.

Commission for Integrated Transport

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what residual functions will remain following the abolition of the Commission for Integrated Transport; which organisation will carry out each such function; what the estimated costs of each such function are; and what transfer of funds will be made to each organisation to carry out each such function.
Answer

The Department for Transport abolished the Commission for Integrated Transport as we concluded that our emphasis should now be on high-level strategic advice rather than the detailed research undertaken by the Commission. We will receive this advice by engaging directly with experts in a number of ways, including through a new informal strategic transport advisory group, rather than an arm's length body. We are currently developing our thinking on these options, including the group, and will publish our conclusions in the next few months.
