Written question asked by Lord Myners (Labour), in the House of Lords. It was answered by Lord Taylor of Holbeach (Conservative) on Wednesday, 16 March 2011.

Government: Commercial Interests

Question
To ask Her Majesty’s Government what conditions a blind trust containing the commercial interests of a minister has to meet in order to comply with the Ministerial Code.
Answer

Ministers manage their financial interests in line with the requirements of the Ministerial Code which makes clear that Ministers must ensure that no conflict arises, or could reasonably be perceived to arise, between their public duties and their private interests, financial or otherwise. A blind trust is a well established mechanism for ensuring individuals are not involved in any decisions on the management, acquisition or disposal of items in the trust. A list of Ministers' interests was published by the Prime Minister on Friday 4 February (Official Report, col. 60WS).
