Literacy: Teaching Methods

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Education what assessment his Department made of the evidence cited in footnote 32, paragraph 2.20 of the Schools White Paper, The Importance of Teaching, on the teaching of systematic synthetic phonics; and whether officials of his Department have discussed the research findings cited with the authors.
Answer

Officials have assessed the research findings referred to in footnote 32 to paragraph 2.20 of the White Paper 'The Importance of Teaching' but have not discussed these findings with the authors.
