Tax and National Insurance

- To ask Her Majesty’s Government what is their timescale for achieving a merger of tax and national insurance.

The Government believe that integrating the operation of income tax and national insurance contributions can remove distortions, reduce burdens on business, and improve fairness for individuals. However, they recognise that any change will be complex and involve a wide range of policy and implementation issues. An initial consultation document will be published later this year to consult on the options, stages and timing of reform. Responses to the consultation will inform future decisions on the timing of any reforms.
