Neurological Conditions: Health Services

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) how many people were recorded as having an acquired brain injury in each of the last six years;

Answer: Brain injury rehabilitation services are classed as a specialised service, and are currently commissioned by 10 regional groups. The Health and Social Care Bill sets out our intention that specialised services will be commissioned in the future by the NHS Commissioning Board.Information on the number of people recorded as having a traumatic brain injury in each of the last six years is not collected centrally.All those who suffered a traumatic brain injury will have received some form of post-acute care.
