Isis Prison and Young Offender Institution

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Justice whether he plans to make any changes to (a) the physical fabric and (b) staffing levels at HM Prison and Young Offenders Institution Isis as a result of the decision to increase the number of over-21 year old offenders there.

Answer: HMP/YOI Isis was constructed to category B standard, which allows NOMS the opportunity to determine the population strategy of offenders without the need for significant investment in the fabric when such changes occur. There are no planned changes to the physical fabric of the site as it is capable of holding either young adult or category C offenders up to the age of 25, irrespective of the numbers in each category.There are no plans to reduce staffing levels as a result of the change to the offender profile.
