Libya: Armed Conflict

Question
To ask the Prime Minister from whom he has (a) requested and (b) received legal advice relating to actions which can be undertaken under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973; and if he will publish any such advice received.
Answer

The Attorney-General and departmental legal advisers provide advice to the Government on legal issues. A Government note on the legal basis for deployment of UK forces and military assets following adoption of UNSCR 1973 was deposited in the House Libraries on 21 March 2011. The Government do not comment on ongoing advice, nor publish it, as to do so would impinge on its ability to seek such advice.
