Legal Aid: Iraq

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice what legal aid funding has been provided to Iraqi citizens for cases relating to alleged abuse by the UK armed forces in each of the last three years.
Answer

The information requested is not readily available and could be provided only at disproportionate cost. The Legal Services Commission (LSC) do not record the nationality of claimants, and so cannot provide comprehensive costs incurred on these cases. Nor are cases specifically recorded or traceable as 'abuse by the UK armed forces'.
