Armed Forces: Costs

Question
To ask Her Majesty’s Government what is the total cost to date of United Kingdom military operations in (a) Afghanistan, and (b) Iraq, calculated on the basis of additional expenditure over what would otherwise have been incurred.

The annual audited figures for the net additional costs of military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq from financial year 2001-02 to 2009-10 are shown in the following table:
