Horn of Africa

Question: To ask Her Majesty’s Government what measures they will put in place to ensure that the money spent through the United Nations World Food Programme in the Horn of Africa goes to where it is most needed.

Answer: The Secretary of State is committed to ensuring that humanitarian interventions supported by the UK reach the most vulnerable in the most efficient manner possible. In response to the current crisis in the Horn of Africa the Department for International Development (DfID), where possible, will undertake live programme monitoring including of UK funded World Food Programme (WFP) activities. Upon completion of these programmes DfID aims to carry out final evaluations where it is able to do so. Such measures are normal DfID practice and play an important role in assessing the impact of our support.
