Libya

Question: (2) what the scope is expected to be of the lessons learned exercise in respect of the Libyan intervention led by Sir Peter Ricketts; and whether it will include an analysis of the adequacy of military equipment;

Answer: As announced in the House on 5 September 2011, Official Report, columns 28-29, the National Security Adviser is leading a study into the lessons learnt about how the new central co-ordination mechanisms around the National Security Council have operated during the Libya crisis. The length of time it takes will obviously depend on when the military operations end. Costs are expected to be met from within existing departmental resources. The House will be informed of the conclusions from the National Security Adviser's study.
