Local Development Frameworks

- To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government what assessment his Department has made of the relative legal weight of local development frameworks and the national planning policy framework.

The proposed abolition of regional strategies through the Localism Bill will increase the salience and importance of local plans; otherwise, the Localism Bill does not alter the legal status of councils' development plans.The proposed changes to national planning guidance will strengthen the importance of local plans at the heart of decision-making.
