Burma: Third Sector
- Question
- To ask the Secretary of State for International Development what projects his Department funds to support civil society capacity building in Burma.
- Answer
-
The Department for International Development (DFID) has recently approved an innovative new four-year programme of support to local civil society in Burma. This will help local organisations and individuals to work together to give an estimated 94,000 people a greater say in decisions affecting their lives. The programme—formally called the Burma Civil Society Strengthening Programme—will provide grants, mentoring and other support totalling £11 million to Burmese civil society organisations. It builds on the previous programme which provided £4 million for civil society capacity building in Burma between 2008 and 2011.Further details of DFID's projects are available on the DFID website:"www.dfid.gov.uk"
