Government Departments: Staff

Question
To ask Her Majesty’s Government since when the Government have offered a career in ministerial private office; and how this fits in with posting in private office being part of career development for civil servants.
Answer

Information on the number of civil servants recruited to a career in ministerial private offices and information on their career development is not held centrally. The recruitment of civil servants to ministerial offices is delegated to individual departments. Appointments are based on merit through open and fair competition in accordance with the Civil Service Commissioners Recruitment Principles. Individual departments are also responsible for the career development of their staff.
