Architecture
- Question
- To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport what assessment he has made of the role of architecture in the formation of cultural quarters in cities.
- Answer
-
Architecture, as one of the creative industries, has an important role to play in the formation of cultural quarters, particularly in their design and planning. As the coalition Government have recently stated in the draft National Planning Policy Framework, we attach great importance to the design of the built environment. Good design should contribute positively to making places better for people. The planning system should promote good design that ensures attractive, usable and durable places as a key means of achieving sustainable development.
