Dogs: Tagging

- To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what steps she has taken to increase the numbers of dogs which are micro-chipped.

The Government support voluntary microchipping of dogs. DEFRA Ministers and officials are currently engaged with key stakeholders from wider government, the police, animal welfare and dog keeping organisations about how to promote more responsible dog ownership and tackle dangerous dogs. One of the proposals under consideration is the compulsory microchipping of dogs.
