Localism Bill
- Question
- To ask Her Majesty’s Government what assessment they have made of the effect that the Localism Bill would have on United Kingdom freedom of information legislation.
- Answer
-
The Localism Bill makes no amendments to the Freedom of Information Act. However, the Government believe there is a strong argument for increased transparency by all bodies in receipt of public funds. Our ““Open Data Consultation””, which closed on 27 October, sought views on proposals about the types of organisations to which an open data policy might apply. The Freedom of Information Act will also be subject to post-legislative scrutiny to see how it is working in practice. Further policy in this area will be developed in light of the evidence drawn from both sets of work.
