Libya: Asylum

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent estimate he has made of the number of Libyan refugees on or near Libyan borders.
Answer

I have been asked to reply. The latest UN estimate, dating from mid October, registered approximately 9,500 Libyan nationals' as refugees in Tunisia, mostly in the southern governorate of Tataouine. This number is down from the 13,000 refugees that had been registered by the UN in early September. We remain in close contact with the UN refugees agency (UNHCR) to monitor the situation at the Libyan borders.
