Cleveland Constabulary

Question: (2) what proportion of the likely costs of investigations into the affairs of Cleveland Constabulary from 1 May 2010 to 31 March 2012 are to be borne by her Department; and if she will make a statement;

Answer: [holding answer 25 November 2011]: Cleveland police have indicated that they plan to apply for special grant support for the costs associated with the investigation involving their former chief constable and deputy chief constable. We have not yet received a formal application, but understand that they expect costs of between £2 million and £3 million. Once received, we will properly assess any formal application for funding against the special grant criteria and consider the appropriate level of Government support.
