Current guidance for obstetricians, midwives and neonatologists is provided by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), which published its Green-top guideline No. 36 on the prevention of early-onset neonatal group B streptococcus disease in November 2003.Information on the number of cases of group B streptococcal infection in babies is not collected centrally by the Department. The following table sets out information published by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) on the number of laboratory-confirmed group B streptococcal bacteraemia reports submitted by laboratories in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The HPA does not collect data for Scotland.
