Breathalysers

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills what steps he is taking to encourage Germany to adopt specifications agreed by the Organisation of Legal Metrology on breath alcohol analysis equipment, including a breath temperature correction feature.

Answer: I have not taken any steps to encourage Germany to adopt specifications agreed by the International Organisation of Legal Metrology in relation to breath alcohol analysis equipment. Although the Department, through the National Measurement Office, is responsible for dealings with the International Organisation of Legal Metrology, Government policy on breath alcohol analysers is the responsibility of the Home Office and they have not asked either for advice or for any representations to be made on this matter.
