Piers: Redcar and Cleveland

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government if he will provide funding for an additional traditional pier in Redcar and Cleveland.
Answer

[holding answer 12 January 2012]: The development of new piers is a matter for local authorities and their partners. I would note that there are a number of funding schemes supported by the Government which may potentially assist regeneration in seaside towns, including the coastal communities fund, the European regional development fund and the regional growth fund.I am placing in the Library a copy of the regeneration toolkit that has been published to accompany the Government's response to the Communities and Local Government Select Committee report on regeneration (Cm 8264, January 2012).
