Education: National Curriculum

- To ask Her Majesty’s Government when the decision was taken to postpone the curriculum review for a year, and whether new terms of reference have been prepared for the next stage of the review.

My right honourable friend the Secretary of State has been considering the evidence gathered by the national curriculum review and next steps, including the implications for the overall timetable, over recent weeks. His decision to postpone the implementation of phase 1 of the review was announced in a Written Ministerial Statement issued on 19 December (Official Report, cols. 138 WS to 140 WS). This will allow further time for consideration and debate of the important issues that have arisen to date. An updated remit for the review will be published shortly and a copy placed in the Library of the House.
