Auckland Castle: Art Works

Question
To ask the hon. Member for Banbury, representing the Church Commissioners, what plans the Church Commissioners have for the future of Auckland Castle and the Zurbaran paintings; and if he will make a statement.
Answer

The Church Commissioners have approved terms for the sale of the Zurbaran paintings at Auckland Castle and the castle itself. The sale will facilitate the creation of a visitor attraction, encouraging regeneration in both the town and the region. This is of benefit to the church, town, county and region. The acquisition is by two trusts, each of which has Mr Jonathan Ruffer as a trustee.
