Crime: Rioting

- To ask Her Majesty’s Government what budget shortfall the Metropolitan Police is facing in meeting the costs of the riots in the summer of 2011.

Managing the budgets for the Metropolitan Police Service is a matter for the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime. The Government have been clear that they will support the police with the cost of the disturbances. As such, the Government have agreed to reimburse police authorities and the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime with 85 per cent of their operational costs and 100 per cent of their Riot (Damages) Act payments.
