To ask the Secretary of State for International Development what assessment he has made of the effectiveness of UK aid in reducing (a) malaria, (b) tuberculosis, (c) HIV/AIDS and (d) illiteracy in the state of Gujarat in India; and if he will make a statement.

Gujarat is not one of the focus states of the Government's aid programme in India and we are therefore not directly supporting any programmes on each of these issues with UK aid in Gujarat.
