Forensic Science Service: Closures

- To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department with reference to the survey of forensic scientists carried out by New Scientist, whether she plans to monitor any effects of the closure of the Forensic Science Service on the number of cases of miscarriage of justice.

[holding answer 27 February 2012]: The closure process has ensured an orderly transition of the Forensic Science Service (FSS) services to alternative suppliers and has given suppliers time to develop additional capacity. There is no reason to believe that the closure of the FSS will lead to miscarriages of justice.
