Prisoners: Foreign Nationals

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice (1) how many foreign prisoners of each nationality were held in prisons in England and Wales on the latest date for which figures are available;
Answer

The following table shows the number of foreign national prisoners of each nationality being held in prisons in England and Wales, as at 31 December 2011. These figures are published quarterly in table 1.6 of the 'Offender Management Statistics Quarterly Bulletin' available at:"http://www.justice.gov.uk/statistics/prisons-and-probation/oms-quarterly"The Ministry of Justice does not hold information on the number of prisoners who hold dual UK and other nationalities.These figures have been drawn from administrative IT systems which, as with any large scale recording system, are subject to possible errors with data entry and processing.
