- To ask the Secretary of State for Justice how much he plans to spend on (a) building new prisons and (b) providing new prison places at existing prisons during the comprehensive spending review period.

Long-term decisions on prison capacity will be taken in the light of future policy developments.The Prison Capacity programme, which started delivering the first of 13,163 additional places in 2007, is nearing completion at an overall cost of £1.64 billion.
