Answer: Miss Hoey: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the status and future of the Hillsborough fund.[25734] Mr. Sackville: The disaster appeal had two trusts, the Hillsborough Disaster Appeal Trust, a non-charitable discretionary trust, and the Hillsborough Disaster Charitable Trust, which was registered as a charity with the Charity Commission in April 1989. The appeal trust was closed in June 1992 and its remaining assets transferred to the charitable trust. The charitable trust was removed from the register in November 1995 because the trustees thought that the trust had served its purpose and wound it up after distributing all the funds.
