Mr. Blunkett: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how many qualified (a) maths, (b) English and (c) science teachers there were in (i) primary and (ii) secondary schools, in each year since 1979.[37753] Mr. Robin Squire: Information about the qualifications of all secondary teachers is available only from the secondary school staffing surveys, which were conducted in 1984, 1988, and 1992. The number of full-time teachers in maintained secondary schools in England who had a post A-level qualification in one of the subjects requested was as follows: Thousands _________________________________________________________________________________________________.
