Mr. Bernard Jenkin: To ask the Chairman of the Accommodation and Works Committee what works have been completed in the parliamentary estate during the summer recess. [592] Sir Raymond Powell: During the 12 weeks of the summer recess a large programme of works was undertaken on the parliamentary estate including installation of the parliamentary data and video network at Star Chamber Court and Norman Shaw North, the next phase of the Refreshment Department modernisation programme at Members' and Strangers' Cafeteria as well as automatic fire detection, new telephone wiring, new electrical wiring, lift modernisation including facilities for the disabled, lavatory refurbishment, essential maintenance such as heating modernisation and other minor works.
