When (a) the planned redevelopment of the Barnet General Hospital and (b) the expansion of services at (i) Northwick Park and (ii) the Royal Free Hospital will be completed.
Answer

Sir John Gorst: To ask the Secretary of State for Health when (a) the planned redevelopment of the Barnet general hospital and (b) the expansion of services at (i) Northwick Park and (ii) the Royal Free hospital will be completed. [2228] Mr. Malone: Phase 1A of the redevelopment of Barnet general hospital, including an enhanced accident and emergency department, is expected to become operational in spring 1997. Plans are well advanced for phase 1B of the redevelopment, under which construction work is expected to commence in summer 1997, subject to approval. Extra capacity is also planned to be available at Northwick Park and the Royal Free hospital from April 1997.
